Important Information

Flight Time

Getting to this incredible kingdom is easier than you think! A direct flight from the UK to Jordan's capital, Amman, takes around 5 hours, so you can be starting your adventure in no time at all.

Transportation

The best way to see all the incredible sights Jordan has to offer is with a private car and driver.

Currency

The currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD, often called 'JD'). It’s a strong currency, and while credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants, you’ll definitely need cash for tipping.

Languages

Arabic is the official language. However, English is very widely spoken throughout the tourism industry, so you’ll find it incredibly easy to chat with people, order food, and navigate your way around.

Warm Weather & Bright Skies?

Jordan is blessed with a fantastic climate, but timing your visit can make it even better.

Spring (March - May) & Autumn (September - November): This is the sweet spot! The weather is absolutely perfect – think long, sunny, and pleasantly warm days that are ideal for exploring Petra and the desert.

Summer (June - August): It gets very hot, especially in the desert and at the Dead Sea. It’s a quieter time to visit, but be prepared for the heat with early morning sightseeing.

Winter (December - February): The days are cool and you'll need to pack layers as it can get surprisingly cold, especially at night. A great time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.

Things to Do in Jordan

Sleep Under the Stars in Wadi Rum

Don’t just visit Wadi Rum for the day – stay the night! Spending a night in a traditional Bedouin camp is an unforgettable experience. You’ll enjoy a delicious dinner cooked underground in a 'Zarb', listen to stories around the campfire, and then witness the most incredible display of stars you have ever seen in the silent desert night.

Feast on a Traditional Jordanian Meal

Jordanian food is absolutely delicious. Dive into a table full of 'mezze' – small plates like creamy hummus, smoky baba ghanoush, and crispy falafel. For a true taste of Bedouin hospitality, you must try Mansaf, the national dish of Jordan, which consists of tender lamb cooked in a yoghurt sauce and served with rice.

Learn the Art of Mosaics in Madaba

The nearby town of Madaba is famous for its stunning Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, including the legendary 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Visit a local workshop to see talented artisans keeping this ancient craft alive. It's a fantastic place to pick up a beautiful, authentic souvenir.

Go Canyoning in Wadi Mujib

For the adventurous at heart, a trip through the magnificent Wadi Mujib canyon is a must (seasonal, typically April-October). This spectacular river-filled gorge runs into the Dead Sea, and you’ll spend a few hours splashing, scrambling, abseiling, and sliding your way through the cool, refreshing water. It’s a brilliant way to cool off!
